professional leader magazine-issue-36 wyatt woodsmall interview editors note 1

Dr Wyatt Woodsmall is a Certified Master Modeller and the co-creator of Advanced Behavioural Modelling, which is a technology for capturing and transferring excellence. He holds a PhD from Columbia University, an M.Div. from Union Theological Seminary, and a B.S. in Physics from the University of Virginia. He currently serves as the senior vice president of the International Research Institute for Human Typological Studies, through which he investigates the relationship between behaviour and performance, as well as the effects of culture on performance.

Often referred to as the Trainer’s Trainer, Dr Woodsmall has students in over 30 countries spanning five continents. For over 50 years, he has worked closely with public and private sectors, focusing on shaping workplace culture and behavioural performance through various designs. He has trained professionals in government, sport, and business.

Along with his wife, Marilyne, he developed many behavioural and learning technologies. He is the author of People Patterns, People Pattern Power, Time Line Therapy and the Basis of Personality, and The Future of Learning: The Michel Thomas Method. During three Olympics, Dr Woodsmall and Marilyne contributed to the success of the U.S. Diving Team. Working closely with athletes and staff, they modelled the coaches and created coaching models.

Dr Woodsmall has acted as a management consultant for various government and private entities. He has also delivered specialised training programmes for the Department of the Army General Officers and Senior Executive Service civilians. In addition, he provided advanced management and negotiation training for the U.S. Postal Service’s advanced management programme.

In 2006, I had the privilege of studying under Dr Woodsmall, during which I spent nineteen classroom days in his company over three months before finally qualifying as a Leadership Communications Trainer. Therefore, I regard Dr Wyatt Woodsmall as a significant contributor to my personal and professional development. With gratitude, I dedicate this issue of Professional Leader Magazine to him.
